Students, staff, alumni and members of the community gathered at the Aviation Park skating rink on Wednesday at 5 p.m. for a hastily arranged prayer vigil for Tatum Love. The junior lacrosse player, swimmer and newspaper staff member was critically injured in a car accident Tuesday evening and was transported to Norfolk General Hospital with massive head trauma.

The group prayer service on the blustery, emotion-filled afternoon demonstrated the closeness of the Outer Banks community and how – regardless of what life throws their way – locals always will be there for one another.

You can learn more about the accident at the GoFundMe page set up for Tatum’s family to help with medical expenses.
